TIME AWAY FROM HOME, JEZ EDEN

This 'time away from home' was not a holiday, but a business trip.  One of those things we can laugh at now, many years later.  I'm sure most of us have experienced a bit of a mini-horror event on our trips away.

'Ant Invasion' - Jez
Pitt Pen and Inktense Pencils
We were in West Africa, in a hotel quite a way from the nearest town - not our choice, I have to stress.  On our first night we were attempting our dinner when suddenly from nowhere an army of tiny ants marched across to the table, up the leg and spread quickly out across the table.  Meanwhile behind us another army of much larger ants were dragging the body of a large cockroach up the wall to a crack/hole in the ceiling.  Don't even ask what the bedroom and bathroom were like, but the place is probably not in the 'Good Hotels Guide'.

It was my turn to wait in the hospital for over an hour this morning while Dev had a procedure - he did the same for me yesterday when I had the CT scan.  I spent the time in the café, and managed to draw this and had it coloured just as Dev came to say he was ready to go.  Time well spent.

  3. Yes, Elisa, this memory suddenly popped into my mind in the hospital café, and I drew it from both memory and imagination. Like you I can't bear creepy crawlies, ants and worst of all spiders!

  7. Oh Jez, ANTS...everywhere!!! yuk....I don't think I could have coped with that. Glad you can look back and laugh about it now and I absolutely love your drawing of it...you have really captured the scene.

Hope all is well for you with the CT and for Dev. Hospitals are not my favourite places!

  11. I would freak out. It reminds me of a movie which took place in Africa and these huge swarms of ants ate anything in their path that was alive. Shudder. Nice little sketch. Hope you are both OK.
