Time Away From Home, Grand River, Rob Kulas

I enjoyed visiting Grand Ledge MI.
While walking along the Grand River I came across this downed tree and loved the shape of it.
Sat on the river shore and did a sketch.

I used 4 Pitt Artist Markers in a Strathmore toned tan sketchbook. About 4x6.

  2. Your tree is awesome, Rob. It is down in the shadow, I see light behind it.

  4. The blue and black on tan paper is really nice, not to mention the wonderful drawing.

    1. Thanks Fran I actually did not use any blue in this sketch. I'm getting the blue effect by smearing a white marker over the dark brown.

  5. Love this beautiful, creepy tree! :) I've always been creeped out by half-submerged trees. Something about floating down a creek and getting caught up in the branches. A childhood phobia? LOL! I'm so weird. But this is wonderful!

    1. Thanks Lisa. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this looked kind of creepy. The tree reminded me of a multi legged creature walking along the shore line. I tried to emphasize the creepiness by adding the whiteish environment

  6. I use Pitt Artists Pens, but have not heard of Pitt Markers. Your lovely painting looks as if it was in watercolour, so I must look these up and see if I can trace them.

    1. Thanks Jez. I'm using the Pitt pens with the brush tips. They are essentially just like markers. You can get a wide variety of line widths using them
