Parks & Gardens, "At the Park", Lynn Cohen

On Saturday I went to the little playground park up the street from our house. It's next to an elementary school, on the same street we live on.  About a three block walk. It was warm and sunny out. Perfect day for some plein air drawing and painting. I took my little three legged fold up chair with it's long strap to carry over my shoulder; a big canvas bag with a jar of water, paint brushes, paints, pens and my sketch pad. I sat under the shade of  huge redwood trees on lush lawn and drew to my hearts content. I do believe I worked on this for a good hour. Much longer than I normally spend drawing and painting anything. The kids were climbing and running around. Parents and grandparents watched and helped. Some kids were screeching at each other and that was a bit hard on my ears. Why I didn't think to turn off my hearing aides I have no idea. I guess some part of me liked hearing the kids at play! You can see the two tube slides at each end of this climbing structure. Next time I'll try to catch some kids in my painting, but they run around and are there one moment and somewhere else the next.

So your drawings for Gardens and Parks can be taken literally as I've done here, or you can draw an indoor garden or a flower you plucked from your own back yard. It's your choice. Let your imagination run wild. Do have fun in the process. I look forward to everyone's art!

  2. A really complicated structure - no wonder it took you an hour. It would be so good to sit out in warmth to draw. We are still wrapping up warm on the few days that are OK for a little outing. You are very inspirational.

  6. You outdid yourself on this fun colorful drawing. Nice you could get outside to enjoy the warmth there and I might be afraid to turn off my hearing in case someone was trying to get my attention. :) Like duck... LOL

  11. Playground equipment has gotten so complicated these days but they are interesting structures for sketching, aren't they? Lots of nice colors and shapes in this!

    1. Thanks Penny. I misspoke and need to change the watercolors I used. It was my Koi Field box, not the W & Ns.
