Parks & Gardens, a Beach Park by Joan Tavolott

Knowing that we were starting this theme was in my mind when I drove to Sunken Meadow State Park in the Town of Smithtown yesterday. It is located on Long Island Sound and you can see Connecticut in the distance on a clear day. It was a cold, windy day so I sat in my car to paint this view through one of the walkways down to the water. When I finished I took a walk along the boardwalk that runs for about 3/4 of a mile each way. I was bundled up with my winter jacket, hat, gloves, and scarf to keep warm but had to smile at some of the people wearing shorts on their walk.

  1. Very pretty! I love the little wooden fence surrounding the dry grasses! I should bundle up and go for a walk. Beautiful job on this, Joan!

  3. Joan, absolutely beautiful. So inviting. I'd don my down gear to walk down that path to the water. Love the reddish orange dry grasses, the gray trees, fence, it all comes together so well. Stay warm. I'm off to the park again in the sunshine here in California.

  5. Very nice winter painting. STill looks a little cold with the bare trees and gray clouds. Think I will wait till summer for a walk by the beach.

  8. What a pretty view! I love the beach fence! Around here, I am always the one bundled up long after everyone else has gone to shorts and flip flops.

  10. Thanks everyone!!! I am lucky to be surrounded by so many beaches both on the ocean and the bay. Yes, it is still windy and cold here but the beach has some charm even now. I do keep a pair of flip-flops and a bathing suit in the trunk of my car just in case I need them before the season starts. lol I think it will be a while yet.
