Parks and Gardens, by Joan Tavolott

Yesterday I took a ride over to the Bayport Flower House, a garden center and florist nearby. I was hoping they would have something colorful outside on display, but since it was very cold I wasn't surprised to only see shrubs and no flowering plants. I thought there was enough outside between the bags of soil, the sheds, the planters, the big goose, and the bench to warrant sketching there anyway. I probably should have gone inside the greenhouse and found some plants, but I'll leave that for another day.

  1. I think the shrubs are just beautiful and I agree that the big goose adds a little whimsy to your painting! Very nice!

  2. It still made an interesting sketch, even without flowers.

  3. Great idea! If the garden doesn't bloom for you GO to the nearest garden where it just might be in bloom. Love that you drew the building. And the goose is priceless!

  5. Thanks, Lisa, Melisa, Lynn, and Ann. Luckily my part of Long Island has many garden and nursery centers that I can stop at to sketch if I want.

  6. I feel like I am almost there. Isn't it great that being an artist and drawing and sketching our world opens our eyes to the beauty that is all around us? Most people miss that.

  7. What a great sketch. I am impressed that you get your architectural lines so straight and square. I have to use a ruler and angle to do that.

  9. A very interesting and skilful painting, I love all the different heights and shapes, and you picked your position just beautifully. Your building is so perfectly done, and the goose is a perfect amusing touch.
