Memories of Dad in the Kitchen #2 by Joan Tavolott

This honing stone is another treasure I have from my dad. When I said I wanted this my brother and sisters looked at me like I was crazy. My mother made a roast beef for dinner every Sunday. After the roast rested my dad would go to the bottom drawer and pull out the box he kept his big special knife in. Then he would pull out the honing stone and start to sharpen his knife. I can't imagine that from one week to the next it would need to be sharpened, but he liked to carve the roast really thin and the knife needed to be super sharp for that. I could easily use an electric knife sharpener for my knives, but this is too special not to use it. The honing stone is dad's but the knife is mine.

  1. This warms my heart to read, Joan. I am an old sentimental fool. The blues and greys are perfect. What a great memory painting.

    1. Thanks, Ann. I have a few things from my mom too. I'm sure at some point they will fit into another theme.
