I didn't get out to a park or a garden today, so I browsed through some of my photos to use as a reference. This was done from a photo taken in April at Johnstown Castle, Wexford County, Ireland when we were there last year. There was a wonderful sculpture garden on the grounds.
The statue was sketched with a water-soluble graphite pencil and then I added watercolors to get the shading on the stone.
Beautiful painting and such a sweet face on the statue. Water soluble graphite - I learn about a new product every day.
ReplyDeleteI love the soft graphite to this painting Joan :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Joan. Love the softness of this piece. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done Joan. Your statue woman looks quite real to me. The floral side is a nice colorful contrast.
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone! It was fun to work from one of my Ireland photos.
ReplyDeleteWater soluble graphite pencils are a new thing to me. But the result is very soft. Beautifully done, Joan!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sirkka. The water-soluble graphite gives a nice grey wash when you add water. It is similar to a watercolor pencil but looks more like pencil lead.
ReplyDeleteStunning..very beautiful...dreamy and ethereal...pure poetry!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Victoria!
ReplyDeleteShe's lovely! I love garden statuary!
