Close to Home Lynn Cohen

Now for the rest of the hat story! Melisa wondered why my DH put a hat on the lamp behind our chairs. (In my previous art post) No, it was not for glare. He just puts his hats, (and other STUFF) wherever it seems to land. And as you can see a whole stack of hats has landed on top of this old hutch/desk I inherited from my parents home years ago. The yellow hats are really straw hats too brightly painted I fear. The black and tan hats are felt of the 1940's-1950's eras, like our father's wore.
At least one of these did belong to HIS father. The yellow/gold behind the glass in the hutch represents some of my Menorah collection. (candle holders for the Jewish holiday of Chanukah) You do not want to see inside the desk! Now you know more of our hat stories!

Drawn this morning while sitting on the slippery couch
(my new excuse for the wonkiness of my drawings)
with Prismcolor Black ink pen 03
and Winsor & Newton Watercolors
in my long narrow 6" X 12" Nature Sketch 130 lb.
artist quality sketchbook (as it says on the front of it).

  1. Well, at least they stack neatly! He must be tall, to be able to get them from the top of the hutch. You be careful on that slippery couch, Lynn!

    1. Yes, he is tall. And he likes hats! He has more. Lots of baseball caps too spread around the house in every nook and cranny. Anyone need a hat?

    1. Thanks Ann. This desk is mostly storage space... But it's the same desk my dad used to keep a cigar box of change in and I'd go in and steal nickels from time to time. Probably the cost of an ice cream cone then. ;-)

  3. I think the hats look fun up there on the hutch. How great that you have some old ones to go along with the straw ones. Good drawing of them and the hutch!! Is it a drop-leaf desk? I always thought those were great.

    1. Thanks Joan. Those are all his hats and yes, he has a variety of styles. Cowboy hats to fedoras. Yes, it's a drop leaf desk. I keep some of my mom's old Dalton glass ware in the cupboard on top and some of my own things as well. It's functional.
