Close to Home Lynn Cohen

Henry V, our cat of ten years, is in his element in his backyard! This morning looking out the window over my computer monitor screen I saw him chewing on grasses out there. He walks the fence line on the ground and on the fence itself marking his territory. That's the corner where we had to remove the huge 22 year old tree to make for happier neighbors. The bush with the red flowers is my camellia bush. The neighbor's house looks like it might be leaning into our yard, but it's not. Nothing to fear.
Henry is guarding us well.

  1. It is nice for the cat to be there in the garden and enjoy the nature. I will remember that tree you took away. You told about it. What don´t we do to häve the neighb ours in goood humor. Do you have the camelia flowering just now? No, I guess.

    3. Yes, we are having a drought! Need rain! Last snow fall here was in 1988 and just a dusting one day.

    1. It is definitely Henry's backyard, house, environs, he runs the show! Yes, camellias were my mom's favorite so it always reminds me of her. A lot of those flowers are on the ground now, but many still blooming and about to bloom on the bush too.

  3. It's so nice to see you bringing Henry into your paintings. Oh, and I love camellias ...lucky you to have one! A suggestion for another theme at some point....how about Holidays/vacations/days out. (Or a variation thereabouts), lol.

  4. Oh yes, Ann, Henry has been quite persistant about wanting to get in on the fun here. I like your suggestion and will add it to our list of themes for the coming months. Thank you!

  5. How sad that you had to remove a fully grown tree on your own property. Does Henry miss it? Seems like it would have been good for climbing but I guess a cat will always find something to climb. Lovely camellia! My SIL just called me a few minutes ago, asking if you could root a camellia from a cutting.

    1. Henry still has three huge redwood trees to climb and scratch ! What did you decide about starting a new camellia?

  6. Nice view of your backyard! I finally got some waterproof pens so maybe I can sketch and paint without smearing, lol.

    1. Thanks, Lisa. I bet you'll mix the pens up. As sometimes smearing can be a good thing!

  7. Cute sketch. The house is peeking on Henry. Saying Good Morning. It's a friendly neighborhood of houses. :))

    1. Thanks, Cris. I do like your interpretation of that "friendly house"! We had more privacy before, but now we have more light!
