Everyday life, Kids in the Park, by Elaine (jaguarish)
Today was the first day of school holidays (2 weeks between Terms 3 and 4) and we met a friend for a playdate. We parted ways at noon, but my kids were still raring to go, so I took them to their favorite park, New Farm Park. There are so many wonderful spaces in the park -- rose gardens, river frontages, grand open lawns, and so on -- but my kids only think of this space: the most extensive playground I've ever seen, replete with multiple walkways and fort shapes interlaced with huge branching fig trees. It really reminds me of a Peter Pan and Lost Boys sort of tree fort. In this picture you only see the very end of it, as I sat some distance away opting for a more peaceful experience (away from all the yelling and joyful shrieks).
I decided to try a technique where you block out large shapes of colour, then add detail using pen, but I got carried away and started adding details with successive layers of colour. Only at the very end did I add some ink lines. It was fun and I must try this again without the colour layering sometime!

Everyday Life, Painting, by Sirkka Jalava
In the autumn there are many courses starting again. I have taken a course where we`ll paint with acrylic colours and the theme is this castle in the autumn, later in the spring we`ll paint people. With the participiants in the course we visited the castle, took many photos, ate our food we had with us, sat in the park and looked around and took impressions of the castle.
Then next time we gathered together we looked at the photos and then slowly began to sketch our pictures. I have choosed this photo to begin with and have sketched a little. I will work on this further and perhaps take a bigger size of canvas to paint it.This is 30 x 40 cm acrylic paper.
This is something what belongs to my daily life now, to sketch and paint. I have got a new sketchbook too to sketch in.

Life Events/Everyday Life, shopping, Ann Hyde
We'll, we all have to shop, don't we. On this occasion husband had gone for a stroll around the shops...I stayed in the car and sketched. Something of an everyday event for us - shopping.
Life Events/Everyday Life, garden visiting, Ann Hyde
During the summer, and especially this time of year, we enjoy visiting National Trust gardens and houses. Yesterday was no exception....we went to Mottistone Gardens run by the Trust. .....and as always I sketched.

Life events, wandering the city centre, by Elaine (jaguarish)
Today I was due to meet up with a good friend who lives an hour's drive away (so we don't see each other so often and need to schedule our meetups). I went into town an hour early and did a series of mini-sketches of whatever caught my fancy as I wandered around. Usually when I do this, it just looks like a jumble of disconnected drawings, but this time I alternated techniques (ink only, or watercolour) and also allowed some images to overlap, and this seems to have pulled the page together better!
Anyway, that was a long way of saying, this is what I did for an hour in the city. :)
