Fantasy Destinations, Provence by Joan Tavolott

Like my painting below this was completed in the workshop I took this week. I say completed because I started it two years ago the day after I took this same workshop the first time. I never finished it until Friday. This was done from a reference photo I took in Provence. It has some of the techniques we used in the class like salt, text, stamping, etc.

Fantasy Destinations, Venice by Joan Tavolott

I am presently in Myrtle Beach, SC where I was taking an art workshop for the past week....funny how two out of the three paintings I did here were destinations I always fantasize about returning to. Here is my latest painting of Venice done at the workshop.

If you care to see more about my workshop experience hop (or fly) over to my blog. I've done a post for each day that I've been in the workshop. www.watercolorsbyjoan2.blogspot.com

Fantasy Destinations, London, by Penny StewArt

Big Ben, London, England

Although I have been to Europe 7 times, I have never been to London. Here is a quick sketch ACEO size, watercolor and pen, of Big Ben. Until I researched this online, I did not know that there were clock faces on all 4 sides.

Fantasy Destinations, Tropical Sunrise in Florida, by Penny StewArt

Tropical Sunrise with Sailboat, in Florida
ACEO 2.5 x 3.5 inches, watercolor and pen
I have never been to Florida, and one of my internet facebook friends, Robin, lives there, on a sailboat, so I imagine this is what she sees every morning, from the deck of her little abode. I used to live in Hawaii, so this could be a view from my distant memory, or maybe when I went to the beach in Venice, California. I still live in the Los Angeles area, so palm trees and the ocean are always nearby.

Fantasy Destinations, The Rhine in Germany, Ann Hyde

We went on  a River cruise along the Rhine  some years ago in Germany.  There had been extensive flooding in the area, which you would think would be fine, it was a river cruise after all.  Sadly not a good thing as it turned out!!  Because the river had risen, towns along the river were at greater risk from the swell of boats travelling along it, hence our cruise boat couldn't travel from its dock in Cologne.  So instead of travelling horizontally we actually travelled vertically on the Rhine, the river was still rising when we were there.   That could only happen to us and the number of times I have told this I could not count {{laugh}}

We always see the cup half full, it's a wonderful way to travel through life. We benefited from this
event in that the Tour company arranged for a coach to take us along the route of the Rhine and stop at wonderful towns and villages along the way.  We gained, as ever, from the unfortunate weather.

Because it was such a lovely holiday, this is a place I would love to go back to.  Either by cruise boat or just independent travel along the Rhine and take in the wonderful scenery again.  (can you imagine the fun I would have sketching ahhhhh).

Fantasy Destinations, Wisenburg, Germany, Lynn Cohen

Last fall when we were traveling abroad we visited the birthplace of my husband, Wisenburg, Germany. He, the child of a German War Bride, mother and American Soldier, father. I loved the brightly colored houses and the brick sidewalks and roads. I would love to go back there one day and sit and draw them on sight again, as I did then. This one I just drew from one of my own photographs. That's Fred not wanting especially to pose for my photo in front of that house, although he liked the house too.

Fantasy Destinations, Majorca, Ann Hyde

Hope you have had a good week everyone.

I'm enjoying these sketches of places I have travelled to

and the ones I would Like to travel to one day...

here's another

Majorca (Mallorca)

Torre del Verger known as Mirador de ses Animes

Spectacular views from here, so when we do have a holiday
there we often stop at this viewpoint - well worth the stop too.

Fantasy Destinations, Majorca, Ann Hyde

Majorca is one of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean.  We've been there a few times and it always stays one of my favourite destinations.  I know the Theme is Fantasy which infers a place never visited and dream of, but I've got to include this as one day we will return there, for now I paint it...

Fantasy Destinations, Louvre Paris, Ann Hyde

I've always thought it would be nice to visit the Louvre in Paris.  Apparently it's very big and you would need more than one day to visit.  That's okay with me, I could easily spend a week there no problems.

Fantasy Destinations, Bamburgh Castle, Ann Hyde

Another castle!   who'd have thought, least me, that I seem to like castles.  Well, to be honest I like the unusual interesting ones.  This is Bamburgh Castle in the North East of England (click the link) and it sits next to the beach, that I think is unusual don't you.    Apparently it was built there because it has a natural water supply and that in turn supplied (and controlled) the nearby townsfolk.

Fantasy Destination, Sissinghurst, Sirkka Jalava

Now I have a little more time, when my challenges are done: #onehundredfaces and #29faces in februari 2015.
I read of your new theme, place you dream to see. I have for long time dreamed of to see Sissinghurst Castle with all the gardens, for ex. the white garden. Both are my dream object, the castle and the garden.

I drew the Sissinghurst castle with dry pastels. You see the famous white roses in front of the building.

Fantasy Destination, "Downton Abby", Lynn Cohen

Well, I am very smitten by the show, Downton Abby, set in the UK, and I would LOVE to visit this castle one day. I understand a family lives in it and they allow tourists to come through. Of course I'd want to see the cast of the show there in all their finery, as the costumes are my big draw to watching it. This is just a rough sketch almost from imagination and could be any castle, but I'll call it Downton! (my apologies to the real thing!)

Fantasy Destinations, San Francisco, Ann Hyde

Ever since the 60's I've wanted to visit San Francisco,  I think it was living through the hippy era, {laugh}.  Recently I watched a program about the making of the Golden Gate Bridge, fascinating story to it.

Anyway, until the day I step onto the soil there, I'll be happy painting pictures of it.
